But I want my month (or is it two?) of standard time back. Dang nabbit, I don’t want it to be daylight until seven thirty at night in the middle of March. I mean, come on, LOL! Where I live, the weather is still too cold – or rather, too bi-polar – for the kids to be going outside to play. But with the sun out for so long now, I can’t seem to get the small people to understand that. And considering my household has run through just about all the lovely sickies that came around this winter… Well, I’d just like to have those few more weeks of short days, that’s all, LOL!
Speaking of spring, the DH is getting amped for planting. Last year, the garden was about 200 sq. ft. This year, he’s looking to expand. I love fresh veggies and such, but oy vey, I had to lay down the law. No bigger garden unless he swore he’d do a better job weeding. ROFL, by the time the garden died back last year, passers by must have thought we’d burned down a small forest.
How about you all? Are you glad springs is in the air? Any of you planting a garden this year?

So, in ten days I’ve got a huge milestone coming up. I’m going to the ‘big’ 3-0. That’s right, Emma Ray is going to be thirty. Great, right?
Well, I suppose it could be. But then again, I’ll be celebrating all by my lonesome. My closest friends live hundreds of miles away. My mom and both of my sisters do too. So… Oh, well, yeah? I’ll get a bottle of my favorite wine and maybe after the kidlets are in bed, the dh and I will snuggle and watch one of my fav movies. That won’t be so bad
What about you guys? How’d you spend some of your milestone birthdays?

Here’s me hoping that we all have a better 2009 than 2008. That way, it’s win-win
Btw, Moscato is a lovely type of wine. Crisp without being to dry and sweet without being sickly. Cheers, LOL!

Since I am all self-taught with the ‘puters stuff, I’m not sure exactly how to ‘link’ this blog to the one on my website. I mean, I could add, via ping, the website’s blog, write all my blogs from Ping, and leave it at that…
Instead, I’m wondering if the Ping widget would allow me to blog from the website, which is a wordpress template, to here?
Anybody know if that works?

So, obviously, a lot of you are probably wondering what the heck happened to me. Without oversharing, I’ll just say I’ve had a rough go a it the last few months and leave it at that, ’cause really, who wants to read about my run of bad luck, LOL?
On the plus side, things are finally getting back to some kind of normal in the Garrett household. I’m posting this from my public library, still a little short for the net at home, but soon enough I’ll be back and alive in the lands of blog and writing
Onto other things, holy wow, it’s almost *that time* of year. I’m not avoiding the jolly word, really, I’m not! But maybe if I don’t say it, I won’t remember that I’m still not finished shopping *see Emma Ray shudder*. The bane of my existence, this thing we call shopping. I’m such a get-in-get-what-I-need-get-the-hell-out kind of girl, the waiting and the crowds trample all over what little patience I have. All that said, I did pick up some great gifts for my wee ones and here’s a little bit of information for those of you still shopping:
I bought a knock off I-Pod at Kmart for both of my daughters for twenty bucks a pop. That’s right, Kmart. Each of the mp3 players holds more than 3G of music too. Now, I know I-Pod’s are all the rage, but there is no way I’m giving a 10 1/2 year old and a 9 year old a seventy dollar tech-toy for them to leave in their pants to be ruined in the wash, or lose somewhere in their never completely clean rooms, lol. But twenty bucks a piece, well, I’ll still be irritated if/when they lose or break them, but not nearly as much.
I also picked up some terrific toys for little boys at a steal at my local farm and fleet type store. Leaving aside BB guns and the like, Farm King has a bundle of great building toys, tools, and cars for your little man and they had them on fantastic sale
If I don’t get a chance to say so before it comes, I wish you all the merriest holiday, regardless what you celebrate (or don’t). May the new year bring us all a little more light and laughter

Goodness gracious. It’s been raining for two solid days and it looks to continue for another. And it isn’t Ike causing the weather either, LOL! In fact, I might be just a wee bit too north to see any rain from him.
For all of those dealing with the effects of Hurricane Ike, my prayers and thoughts go out to you. May you and yours be safe and secure when the sun comes out.

So, I promised myself I’d do a better job keeping up with my blog this time, and so by goodness, I’m going to. Even though right this instant, I feel about as creative as a dirty paper napkin, LOL!
Anyway, so a while back a friend of mine and I were chatting and she asked me something I thought was kind of funny at first, until I started trying to answer. Her question was are all the authors you know as ‘quirky’ (read: oddball and maybe slightly wacky) as you are?
After many moments, my answer was, “Hmm, I guess they’ve all got their ‘quirks’, so yeah, I’d say they’re all quirky.”
And that really got me thinking, so I started studying the point. And I gotta tell you, I haven’t had any luck so far finding any sort of creative mind, regardless the medium, that isn’t left or right of ‘normal’. We aren’t crazy, we just aren’t totally sane, ROFL!
All that said, I can tell you that for me, being deep in the dumps takes me too far into that left or right of normal and makes functioning creatively super difficult. Being my regular self- generally very pessimistic and a little blue, with a dash of OCD and anger tossed in for good measure- works out perfectly for writing. But too dark get the thoughts, or too angry the mind, and pffft. Nothing. Just stringing two words together aloud, let alone on a page, becomes really difficult.
LOL, any way, there is a bit of a point to this post. For you, dear readers, can you think of a singular creative person, in your life or in history, that wasn’t left or right of normal? Do you think creativity is tied to emotional balance, or lack thereof?

The last few days have been. Man! It’s been so long since I’ve had to be on a ‘first’ shift routine, I don’t know who’s konking out first. Me or my little people, LOL!
The first few days of school have gone really well, thank goodness. Everyone is enjoying it and they’ve gotten back in to the routine pretty well. Sadly, I’m not adjusting half as well. Guess that figures, huh?
Anyway, fingers crossed I’ll get my ms. off to the fabulous Crystal by Sunday. Then it’s back to one of the other projects I started over the summer. I haven’t quite adjusted to the house being empty, it seems kind of surreal still. But hopefully, in the next couple of weeks, my body clock will be reset and I’ll be busy writing while everyone is gone, instead of catching up on lost sleep, ROFL!

He looks so cute with his glasses. So weird, you know, finding out that his right eye is as perfect as a human eye can be, but his left is totally whack. He’s a whopping plus five in the left eye – for you 20/20 folk that means he’s *really* farsighted in his left eye.
His dad and I have already discussed it and as soon as the kidlet can handle it, we’ll move him into a contact. Not because wearing glasses is a bad thing – I wear glasses and I like them, LOL! But because farsighted glasses magnify the eyes behind the lenses. So to an onlooker, the boy’s left eye seems ‘wrong’, so to speak. It looks larger than the right, which sits behind a plain piece of plastic. Anyway, so in a couple of years, we’ll probably look into a contact lens correction for the left eye.
The oldest is also a bit farsighted, though thankfully neither of them had my quirk of one eye far and the other nearsighted. Anyway, so she’s getting a check later this week. So much fun, LOL!
I’ve been wearing glasses since before kindergarten. A long time, LOL! But I have to say, I wasn’t keen on the change and I had terrible headaches in the beginning. But my son seems to be taking it all in stride, like he does most things.
So what about the rest of you? Anything exciting for you all as you pass yourself coming and going trying to get your kids ready for school?

Wow, I don’t know where the summer went, but in about ten days, all three of my little people will head to school. Not only is that a big deal, but thinking about it made me realize that this year will be the only school year where all of my kids will go to the same school.
The eldest is a fifth grader – man, where did ten years go? The middle starts third grade and the youngest, kindergarten. They are all excited, practically beside themselves, and I’m really glad for that
In other news, I’ve lost like ten pounds. Cool, huh? Not sure what I did to lose the weight, but hey, I’m not complaining. I had a pair of jeans that were getting a bit snug, but they’re back to fitting just right.
Oh, and just my two cents, but the whole cocoa butter for stretch marks thing? Yeah, it makes my skin smell delicious, but it doesn’t get rid of the scars. Ah well, you win some, you lose some.
