Summer television

Okay, so there isn’t as much on during the summer as there is in the fall, but duh, ROFL! And since I can remember when there was no new tv on to watch during the summer, I’m happily looking forward to several shows that will run fresh eps starting at the end of June or early July. They follow, in no particular order:

1. Psych - on USA network. This show is smart, funny as hell, and delightfully campy at times. I love it.

2. Monk - on USA network. If you don’t know who Adrien Monk is by now, not only are you missing out on the comically perfect Tony Shaloub but you’re missing a fantastic show. A little bit Poirot and a lot bit OCD, this show is so much fun to watch!

3. Burn Notice - on USA network. Mmm, mmm good. Man, the dude that plays the main guy in “Burn Notice” has been fantasy material since he appeared in another - and shorter lived - USA series a few years back. This one is smart, sexy, full of action and great dialogue. As an added bonus, “Shop Smart, shop S-Mart” Campbell co-stars and I wouldn’t miss seeing him on the tube for a pint of Hagen Daaz’s Sticky Toffee Pudding ice-cream.

4. In Plain Sight - on USA network. This is a brand new series that feels a bit like “Saving Grace”, but is different enough, both in writing and in characters, that I’ll be following it. And if you missed the series premiere, try to catch it online somewhere. There were some laugh my ass off moments.

5. Saving Grace - on TNT. OMFG, If you aren’t hot for Holly Hunter as Det. Annadarko you must be blind! Not only is she wicked awesome as a kick ass heroine (and an actress alltogether) but this is a chick I would SO love to hang out with. And I love the way the writers’ balance the thematic elements so smoothly - one minute it could be focused on the religious undertones and the next those events just transition into whatever case Grace is working. All without being nutzo, in your face about it, which is what I really love.

6. The Closer - on TNT. Again, Brenda Lee Johnson is such an awesome main character, I was sucked in from episode one. I love watching Mrs. Kevin Bacon on this show so much, I watch reruns, which is nearly unheard of for me, LOL! Kira Sedgewick, paired up with the cranky old guy from the “Police Academy” movies and a host of other veterans make the show one of the best acted on television, IMO. And Brenda Lee’s quirks are so damn funny - really, if you like your gritty crime dramas with some laughter and engaging characters you can fall for, watch “The Closer”. You won’t be disappointed.

7. Eureka - on Sci-Fi. I know, I know. Science Fiction on Sci-Fi? I must be wrong, LOL. Nope, I promise, Eureka is indeed sci-fi and it’s indeed on the channel of the same name. A town full of geniuses gets a new sheriff who is of average intelligence - that’s kind of the premise. What I love about this show isn’t just that it makes me laugh, it’s that it also makes me think. All the residents of the town work for the gov’t in some fashion or another - or may someday (the kids) - and some of their ideas are absolutely mind-bogglingly stellar spring board points for a creative mind. Plus, I like that while most of the folks in town treat the sheriff like an idiot from time to time - they always come together to solve the problem. He knows his limitations, the sheriff I mean, but his down-to-earth common sense comes in handy quite often.

I’m sure I’m missing something, which I hope my friend Renee will remind me of, LMAO! Oh, question: The DH rented “Cloverfield” but I’m hesitant to watch it. While I enjoyed “The Blair Witch Project” the crazy camera crap got old - really, really, really old - about twenty minutes in. Is “Cloverfield” as hard to watch as “TBWP”?

And I’ve just been thrown for a loop. Finally, after a season of back and forth and hemming and hawing, Beth and Mick look like they might actually get together on CBS’ “Moonlight” and — The Bastards canceled the show!? WTF? Who’s in charge over there? There’s no good sci-fi/paranormal stuff on TV anymore, I swear *huffy sigh*

I know a lot of folks love “Supernatural” but to be honest, I never really got into it. Not sure why. And BSG is about to go off forever too, so there goes that one. The only plus is the Sookie Stackhouse series coming to HBO, but that isn’t until the fall. Where or where will I get my paranormal TV fix? Anyone have an idea? Any suggestions? I’m open to anything :)
